TOP QUESTIONS
I'VE NEVER HAD REFLEXOLOGY. WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST SESSION?
My studio is located on colorful Front Street in the Guerrard Building. I offer a scent free environment with calming music, plush towels, soft pillows and a warm blanket. All the creature comforts of home!
You will be asked to remove your socks and shoes for foot reflexology sessions and will then lay down on a massage table. Your first session will include a thorough health intake so I can learn about your health history and get to know more about you and what you hope to achieve during our time together.
I will walk you through the process of what our session will entail and answer any questions you may have.
WHAT IF I HAVE A SERIOUS HEALTH CONDITION? IS REFLEXOLOGY SAFE?
Yes, reflexology sessions are safe for almost everyone, from young to old and even people living with serious health conditions. Before receiving any treatments, I will perform a thorough and detailed health intake as well as a foot/ear assessment. I will be sure to address any questions or concerns you may have and also to ensure there are no contraindications to receiving a reflexology treatment.
Being certified in both foot and ear modalities allows me to adjust sessions as needed and switch modalities if a contraindication is present.
I HAVE SENSITIVE FEET. IS REFLEXOLOGY PAINFUL?
Western reflexology is not meant to be painful and can actually provide relief from many painful foot conditions. During your session tender points may be found, but I will be checking in with you continuously to ensure the pressure is comfortable and the session is not painful.
When a tender reflex is found, I will ease the pressure and revisit the area later in the session. The session is meant to be comfortable and relaxing.
HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED TO START SEEING RESULTS?
Clients will ofter feel relaxed and recharged after just one session, however, improvements continue to be seen after 5-6 weekly sessions. I highly recommend a minimum of 5 weekly sessions to start for optimal results, followed by a maintenance schedule of bi-weekly or even monthly sessions.
For acute conditions, 2 sessions per week for the first few weeks can be beneficial.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A SESSION? ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Reflexology stimulates the body's own healing mechanisms. As the body strives for balance, the organs of elimination become activated. Reactions to a session can include:
Productive cough - mucous/phlegm
Sinus draining
Changes in urination/bowels
Nausea or lightheadedness
Skin changes
Metallic taste in mouth
Watering eyes
*Please note these reactions are temporary and often a sign that the body is out of balance and trying to achieve homeostasis.
I HAVE FOOT PAIN/ARTHRITIS/PLANTAR FASCIITIS. CAN I STILL HAVE A SESSION?
Yes! Reflexology can help relieve some of the pain and discomfort from a multitude of foot conditions. The gentle pressure point techniques relieve tension and the increased blood flow can reduce pain, swelling and inflammation.
Clients unable to have a foot reflexology session can always switch to an ear reflexology session at anytime. There are very few contraindications for auricular therapy.
WHAT ARE EAR SEEDS?
Ear seeds are seeds placed on your ear to serve as tiny acupressure devices. They're a type of auriculotherapy, a traditional Chinese medicine technique that focuses on areas in your ear. They're thought to promote comfort and relaxation and reduce pain.
Ear seeds are generally safe. They're noninvasive and don't require the use of needles, so there's a much lower risk of infection or bleeding compared to acupuncture. However, if you have sensitive skin or a latex allergy, the metal seeds or adhesive tape might cause some irritation
IS REFLEXOLOGY SAFE FOR CHILDREN?
Reflexology is safe for all ages, from infants to the elderly. There are very few contraindications for reflexology. Children often benefit from shorter, modified sessions.
Your reflexologist will always complete a thorough health intake on all clients before proceeding with any treatment to ensure there are no contraindications to treatment.
I HAVE EXTENDED HEALTH BENEFITS. IS REFLEXOLOGY COVERED?
I am fully licensed and insured by The Natural Health Practitioners of Canada. This allows many of my clients with extended benefits to claim their treatments.
I recommend contacting your insurance provider for specific details about the coverage your plan includes. My invoicing will include my membership number with The Natural Health Practitioners of Canada.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
I ask that clients please provide 24 hours notice for any cancellations. A $25 cancellation fee will be charged at any subsequent sessions for any missed appointments without 24 hours notice.
**In case of any symptoms as a result of our Covid-19 screening protocols, no cancellation fee will be charged.
